Private search of your own data
Search your company’s own documents, privately.
Spec makes your records and the text inside your files searchable on a computer your company owns. When it runs on your computer, you search your data without sending it to anyone else’s AI, or to us — and search works with the internet switched off.
What you can search
- Records in your PostgreSQL databases: a customer’s name, an invoice number, a topic.
- The text inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OpenDocument and PDF files.
- Each result shows where it came from — a row in a database table, or a file — and how close a match it is.
Search shows the matching records. Answers written by a local AI aren’t switched on in the app yet.
Private because it stays on your computer
Nothing leaves
- When Spec runs on your computer, your company’s data never passes through our servers.
- You search without sending your data to anyone else’s AI, or to us.
- Searching the copy doesn’t go over the internet; it works with the internet switched off.
Only the right people, the right rows
- Three roles: members search and read, operators also run copies, admins also manage people.
- For databases, the row-level security rules already in your data decide which rows each person can find.
- Each workspace has its own store, so teams’ data stays apart.
Your Supabase or Postgres data too
Specbase reads a Supabase or Postgres dump file without connecting to anything, and never runs a statement from it. It makes the tables, columns, views and their descriptions searchable, with rows linked by their foreign keys, so you can search your Supabase data on your own computer. See Specbase.
Nothing has to move to try it
Your app and its live database stay where they are. Spec only reads, and keeps its copy up to date. See how it works, read the Spec for AWS guide, or search made-up data in the demo.
